“Compression Resist: Shibori, Clamp-resist, and Ikat” at the China Naional Silk Museum (CNSM) in Hangzhou.

Different aspects of this theme will be touched during the conference time, a.o. archeology, ethnography, costume/ fashion/ art and conservation. The organising World Shibori Network is working together with the CNSM in Hangzhou. Open calls for entries are planned for the main exhibition “Contemporary Art of Shibori & Ikat” with its deadline of 15 Aug., 2014, and for the exhibition “New Beat: Internatuional Student Concourse”, application date: 5 July 2014. Other Chinese exhibitions and international performances will have their special openings.
A pre-confernce workshop tour from 25 to 30 Oct. 2014 is planned to Shanghai, Suzhou and Nantong with Miao weaving demonstrations, hands-on embroidery and braiding techniques etc., a trip to the Blue&White Print Museum in Nantong and visits to the Zhou Zheng Garden & Hanshan Temple in Souzhou.
The post-conference tour will start on 5 November in Wenzhou/ Zhejiang at a clamp-resist studio, an indigo farm and a local herb market and will end on 17 November, after an excursion via Xinjiang to Urumqi in Central Asia, a visit of the Dunhuang Caves, to see the Buddhist paintings Xi´An and the Terracotta Warriers.
